Shelly Beach is a beautiful town from which to explore the subtropical waters of the Indian Ocean that border the eastern coast of South Africa. Located in the Hibiscus Coast of KwaZulu Natal, Shelly Beach was named after the many beautiful shells that wash up on her shores. African Dive Adventure’s [ADA] Diver Villa is located in Shelly Beach and accommodates up to 12 divers, with plenty of space. The infinity pool is the perfect place relax after a day of fantastic diving and is complemented by the spectacular views over rolling hills and ocean.

Umkomaas is a small coastal town along the south coast of KwaZulu Natal. Located 48 km south of Durban, the town sits alongside the mouth of the River Umkhomazi which flows into the subtropical waters of the Indian Ocean. Set in lush tropical gardens, the Agulhas House is perfectly situated for divers to explore the nearby Aliwal Shoal, a volcanic reef approximately 5km offshore.

The Itinerary

This tour includes 3 nights accommodation at the ADA Diver’s Villa at Shelly Beach, 4 nights accommodation at the Agulhas House at Umkomaas, with an optional 3 day safari extension available*.

Afternoons will generally be free for you to enjoy local excursions such as white water rafting, horseback riding, golf, and hiking (not included in the package price).

Itinerary Highlights…

Protea Banks is 7.5km from Shelly Beach, and one of the best places in the world to go shark diving. Lying at a depth between 27-40 metres, this 6km long reef is one of the richest tuna grounds in the world. The density of the tuna population attracts a plethora of marine life to the reef, making it one of the most exciting places in the world for scuba divers who love adventure.

Aliwal Shoal is rated as one of the top ten dive sites in the world, and is known for its spectacular marine life. The volcanic reef lies approximately 5km offshore from Umkomaas, and is approximately 3km in length. There are a number of dive sites at various depths, allowing for novice and experienced divers alike to catch a glimpse of the spectacular marine life. Ragged tooth sharks, tiger sharks, bottlenose dolphins, turtles and even humpback whales are known to frequent the waters around Aliwal Shoal.
Wildlife Safari will be from Zululand Rhino Reserve or the Nambiti Game Reserve in the morning, with a game drive in the afternoon.
